Many exams are canceled or either postponed due to COVID-19. Students are frustrated as they burnt the midnight oil intending to achieve their goals but now they are unsure whether the exam will be conducted or not amidst the surging cases of COVID-19. The students and parents are arguing whether there should be an Online or Offline exam. In this dilemma, the government announced that the CBSE Students of Class 10th will be promoted and the exams of class 12th will be postponed.

CBSE Board

CBSE is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools. The Union Government of India controls and manages it. All the schools affiliated with CBSE follow the NCERT curriculum. CBSE is affiliated to all Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private schools, and most of the schools approved by the central government of India.

Postponement of Examination

Some students were happy with this decision but some were disappointed as they had worked hard all year to secure a good score. Some felt it was better to cancel the exams instead of postponing them. This decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting was attended by Pokhriyal, Education Secretary, and other government officials too and this decision was made after the collective views of everyone. The CBSE class 12th examinations were initially scheduled from May 4th to June, 14th, 2021. The situation will be reviewed on 1st June 2021 and thus the decision will be declared accordingly.

They also stated that a notice will be issued 15 days before the examinations. The decision was taken as there was a tremendous increase in COVID-19 cases in some states. Some states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh are the worst affected.

Impact due to COVID-19

India has registered a steady increase in the number of cases for the 35th day in a row. India has recorded around 1,84,372 new cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally of cases to 1,38,73,825. The death toll in the country has increased to 1,72,085 with 1,027 new fatalities, the highest since October 18, last year. The only noticeable difference is that now people aren’t worried and afraid of the COVID-19 Virus.

Effect on Future

The postponed exam has tremendously affected the student’s future endeavors. Since most of the Universities require class 12th scores for the admission process, students will not be able to secure admission for UG courses without the class 12th mark sheet. The students who were aspiring to study abroad will also be affected. The deferred class 12th exams will adversely affect competitive exams and college intakes also. This situation may also compel the education system to reduce the syllabus. Some students have started dropping out of the schools as their families can’t afford the education expenses.

The Silver Lining

But if we look on the bright side students will get more time to prepare for the exams and since the course has been decreased they can score a better percentage. They can focus better on competitive exams like JEE and NEET since the cutoff of 75% in your board exams criteria was also removed to make it easier for students to get admission.

So according to me, this is a debatable situation but students should make the optimum use of this time and pursue their hobbies and interests. They should engage themselves in physical activities or sports to improve their health and enhance their immunity. They can also explore themselves and think about their future aspirations. This time will prove beneficial to you only if you know how to utilize it properly.
