A huge sector that has been impacted greatly by covid-19 is the education sector. It is estimated that 157 crore learner students across the world will have been affected. In India, more than 32 crores students both at school and college level have been affected. Some countries are canceling their exams, some are postponing, and in some countries, the exams will conduct in different styles with precautions. Like in Italy, the Italian government has decided that the school exams will be conducted orally. The written exam will be canceled. In France, the high school final exam would be more or less completely canceled.

In India class, one to eight are closed and, students are on vacation. The government has decided that 10th CBSE student’s marks will be allotted by the internal assessment or practical assessment of students performing. And students who are not satisfied with their marks can opt for the option of board exams.

Parents and students reactions to the situation

As aged people are getting vaccination right now, and students are not vaccinated. Therefore parents and students are worried and not in favor of offline exams. No parents want to take such a risk for their children. And students are already stressed and feared. They are preparing through the online class, which is already new for them. After a whole year, students cover the studies online, so they are not prepared for offline exams and, this is also a reason that they are in favor of online exams. There are also some suggestions of not canceling the exams and conduct them on the same dates with proper safety measures and precautions. As not all students but by canceling exams, medical students will suffer in the future.

If exams are not canceled

If exams are not canceled and conducted online, then it will be advantageous for students. Reduction in cost, better time management because of the online studies and online practices thus fast result and evaluation. There are also disadvantages like connectivity issues, cheating, and comfort-ability of students.

States and their decisions

Because of different situations in states, state governments have taken decisions accordingly. Student’s age group are not vaccinated yet, and handling several students is a tough task. In Madhya Pradesh, MPBSE has postponed the 2021 exam for the whole state. It also postponed board exams of 10th and 12th and, schools from class one to nine will remain close. Jharkhand Academic Council has not decided on theory exams.
Utter Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi government rescheduled the dates of the exam. Chattisgarh also postponed board exams and, exam dates are not declared yet. West Bengal also has to make decisions for the board exams. Some states like Uttarakhand, Tripura, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh has under control situation right now and, their government has no plans for rescheduling the exams.

Exams affected by Covid-19

  • Entrance exams: VITEEE, NEET-PG, SRMJEE, AMUEEE, JEST, UPCET, TISS MAT, and many other entrance exams postponed due to Covid-19.

Impact of these decisions:

Cancel or postpone it is hard to satisfy all students and people with the decisions the government takes. It will show both the good and bad impacts: Students who have studied whole year are not happy with the decision of cancellation. Though, the government has given the option to take board exams if students want.

The government has also assured that after rescheduling of exams minimum of 15 days will be given to students. Still, 12th class students are not mentally prepared. Hashtag cancel board exams come in trend on Twitter. Cancellation of the exam is considered a good decision than repeated rescheduling of the exam. If exams will keep postponing, it will be hard for Indian students to take admissions abroad. Also, students whose exams are not canceled are confused and pressured due to news and changing scenarios.
