Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Exam 2024: Everything You Need to Know: The Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Exam is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Statistical Service (ISS). The ISS is a Group A service under the Government of India and its officers are responsible for collecting, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data for the government.

Exam Pattern

The ISS Exam 2024 will be a three-stage exam consisting of:

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination
  • Interview

The Preliminary Examination will be a computer-based test (CBT) and will consist of two papers:

  • Paper I: General Studies
  • Paper II: Statistics

The Main Examination will be a written exam and will consist of six papers:

  • Paper I: General English
  • Paper II: General Studies
  • Paper III: Statistics I
  • Paper IV: Statistics II
  • Paper V: Economics
  • Paper VI: Quantitative Methods

The Interview will be conducted by a panel of experts and will assess the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and suitability for the ISS

Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility criteria for the ISS Exam 2024:

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate must have passed the 10+2 examination with Mathematics and Statistics as compulsory subjects.
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of two years of work experience in a statistical or quantitative field.

Application Process

The application process for the ISS Exam 2024 will begin in October 2023. The application form will be available online on the UPSC website. The application fee is Rs. 1,000 for general category candidates and Rs. 500 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Selection Process

The selection process for the ISS Exam 2024 will be as follows:

  • Preliminary Examination: The candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination will be eligible to appear for the Main Examination.
  • Main Examination: The candidates who qualify the Main Examination will be eligible to appear for the Interview.
  • Interview: The candidates who qualify the Interview will be selected for the ISS.
