There are quite a number of things that you can do in order to diversify your career if you are working as a Human Resource Manager. Below I have mentioned the important ones:

1. In case you have not got your MBA, you can go for one. This is rarely the case that people get in to this position without an MBA degree but in case you are one of them you can go for MBA, as the degree will not only provide you the knowledge and skills to survive and excel in this competitive world but also an opportunity to interact with the diversified set of people and expand your network base. The human interaction is also an effective method to enhance your learning. Therefore a B School platform is the right place for you to diversify your skill sets.

2. You can shift your organization from time to time. Suppose that you are working in a software firm for quite some time, you can consider working in an entirely different field so that you learn things beyond software and interact with people apart from the software professionals. The value of diversity is extremely important in case of a human resource manager and the diversity comes from experiencing diverse working environments. In case you are not keen to change the organization, you can still shift the department within the same organization.

3. There are wide number of opportunities inside the human resource department. As a human resource manager you can not only work with the people and solve their problems but also get chance to train them and involve yourself in a variety of fun exercises. These exercises give you the chance to learn beyond your day to day activities and therefore you can utilize them to maximize your learning.

4. You should interact with as many people as possible. That is extremely important for you as a human resource manager. The larger is your network, the stronger your profile is. Do not restrict your networking in office premises but also beyond it.

Dear Aspirant,

You may think for learning Law (LLB) and get into Labour Laws.

Or you may also try to diversify into Learning & Development.

Best wishes

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for writing to www.careerguide.com!

Human Resource Management involves dealing with people and their concerns pertaining to the organization that they work for. As per your query, it isn't clear as to what you mean by diversify.

However, the scope for a professional who has worked in HR Management is wide. You can take up Teaching as a profession with clearing NET/ SET exams and teach in college or University. There are few private coaching institutes too hire HR professionals for teaching Management course.

  1. You can also be a free lancer teacher where Colleges/ Universities/Coaching Institutions hire you for a limited period.

  2. You can start your own consultancy firm and provide outsourcing services to MNC's with most apt candidates for their jobs.

  3. You can be Freelancer/ full time Trainer in any organization where you provide them need based training, help in performance appraisals.

  4. You can also learn Psychometric tests course specifically used in industries right from Recruitment to Motivation, Performance Testing etc of the employees and help to strengthen the Organization.

Please write us back for any further information.
All the Best for your Bright career!

Thanks& Regards,
