Hello,

Thank you for choosing Meracareerguide and writing to us. I understand you have developed interest into psychology lately and I understand it happens to many to find interest in new subjects. But before you embark on a career in Psychology, it is very much needed to check yourself if you are really interested in doing it and if you really want to be in this field. I advice you to do psychometric test available on this website and carefully check if your personality fits into psychology field. Alternatively you can also obtain a personalised counselling report from us if you like to have one.

First of all, to have a career in Psychology, it requires you to have studied in-depth knowledge in psychological theories. This is required only of you want to be a Clinical psychologist. However you may try studying other branches of psychology, if you don't have a relevant psychology background. You can study Counselling psychology if you like to pursue. This actually doesn't require in-depth psychology theories to be able to study Counselling Psychology at a Masters level. So please feel free to study either MA/MSc Applied Psychology or MSc Counselling Psychology.

Universities in India requires BA/BSc Psychology degree to be able to study MA/MSc Psychology and therefore you can consider studying Applied Psychology courses. I would advice you to write or contact universities directly to check if they are happy to recruit you for MSc Applied psychology or MSc Counselling psychology with a non-psychology background. Some of the institutes that offer these courses are

1. Amity university - MSc Counselling psychology

2. IIPR - MSc Counselling Psychology

3. Christ university - MSc Psychological Counselling

4. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) - MA Counselling Psychology

5. Bangalore University - MSc Psychological Counselling

6. Institute of Behavioural and management sciences - MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy

7. Indian institute of applied psychology - MA/MSc Counselling, MA/MSc Applied Psychology

8. SNDT University Mumbai

9. Sophia college Mumbai

10. University of Mumbai colleges

In case if the above colleges doesn't admit you, you can still consider studying a Diploma or PG Diploma in Psychology or Counselling Psychology. You acn either study full time or by distance. Some of the universities or colleges that offer Diploma courses are,

1. Bangalore university

2. University of Pune

3. Institute of Psychotherapy and management sciences Mumbai

4. Annamalai university

5. Madurai Kamaraj university

6. Indian institute of counselling

7. Institute of Holistic mental health

8. Gujarat university

9. Indian academy school of management studies

10. Jamia Millia Islamia

You will have to decide if you want to study Diploma or a Masters degree based on your time and financial commitments. Please write back if you have any questions.

All the best.
