ITI is the short word for Industrial Training Institute or Industrial Training Centers. They are
constituted under Directorate General Employment and Training (DGET), Ministry of skill
development and entrepreneurship, and Union government to provide training in various kinds
of trades that are used in industries. The main aim of such training institutes is to evolve a
skilled workforce and to impart technical training to students and develop industry-specific skills
among students.

It is rightly said ‘The quickest way to run out of time is to think you have enough of it’, by stating
this quote I meant that one can achieve success in less time if he/she doesn’t waste time. ITI
course can be pursued just after class 12th or even after class 10th. The period of this course may
vary from 6-months to 4-years. After completing ITI training, one has to appear for AITT (All
India Trade Test) and the candidates who successfully pass this test are given National Trade
Certificate (NTC) and are eligible to work for any industry. Apprenticeship training scheme is
serving best for students who have completed their ITI training.

Some people know ITIs by term ‘trades’. ITIs offer training programs called trades, each trade
focuses on a specific industry
. The courses offered by ITI are broadly categorized into two areas-

1.Engineering
2.Non-engineering

Here is the list of courses/trades provided by ITI-
Electrician- It is a 2-year course which is provided in almost all ITI training institutes. This
training equips you with the electricity-related devices, the electric wiring of the building
etc
.

Electronics Mechanic- It is a 2-year course. A student is trained to assemble, fabricate,
troubleshoot, test and repair electrical equipment.

There are still many more courses like fashion technology, fitter, instrument mechanic,
photographer, secretarial practice etc which one can pursue during ITI. Now the students get
confused as to what to do next. ITI qualified candidates can apply for jobs in private or public
sector.  Candidates can also find a job in government sectors like Indian Army, Indian Navy,
Telecom, Railway etc or even apply for apprenticeship training through National Apprenticeship
Scheme.
