Hey Dear,

I am glad o know that you are interested to become a clinical psychologist... in fact it has become one of the most demanding careers these days....

You are still an armature in this filed of psychology and there is long way to go to become a clinical; psychologist.

After completing your graduation in psychology you will have to prepare for the entrance exam for your masters in the same. You will have to fulfill the eligibility criteria for the same as well. It is not an easy process as there are very limited good colleges in India which offer this course.

A lot of preparation and hard work along with at least 55% marks in your graduation are required to do your masters. Though after doing your graduation in the same I really don't think that you will have to require a lot of hard work in the same. After the entrance only a few selected students are called for the interview. Delhi University even conducts a Group Discussion. After this a merit list is prepared and then on the basis of the final merit list you will get admission.

After completion of your Masters in Psychology (as many of the colleges have only Masters in Psychology and very few colleges will give you a degree in Masters in Clinical Psychology) you will have to again prepare and sit for the M.Phil Exam and do the same for a certification in Clinical Psychology as that is one of the benchmarks to practice as a clinical psychologist in this field.

Also M.Phil should be done form a college that is approved form Rehabilitation Council of India or RCI only then you become an authorized clinical psychologist. Also you need to be registered under RCI as a clinical psychologist to practice independently in this filed.

It is a long way to go...... But your love for the field will help you do the same.....

Best Wishes...!!!

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for putting up your query here. Well, to become a clinical psychologist, minimum qualification is MPhil in Clinical Psychology.

Following is the career pathway to become a Clinical Psychologist:

  • MA/MSc in Psychology (preferably specialize in clinical psychology if you want to do become clinical psychologist)
  • MPhil in Clinical Psychology (you have to appear in entrance test and interview)
  • PhD in Clinical Psychology (is desirable but not mandatory to work as a clinical psychologist)

When you choose institutions for MPhil, please consider institutions which are recognized/approved by RCI. After MPhil, register yourself as a Clinical Psychologist. You will get RCI registration number which is prerequisite to practice as clinical psychologist.

Hope this is helpful. If you still have more queries, feel free to ask.

With Best Wishes,
