In this article, we will highlight what is NIOS all about, its scope, and its eligibility. The National Institute of open schooling (NIOS) is the board of education under the union government of India. NIOS has now been one of the most prominent boards in India. It is approved and funded by the ministry of human resource and development.

More than 1.5 million students have enrolled for NIOS. The basic concept is that NIOS students can walk into the examination center when they feel ready for the examination. The syllabus is designed by NCERT (National Council for Educational Research in Training) which ensures that the syllabus is as competent and equivalent to the CBSE board.

It aims to facilitate students who are unable to pursue regular studies. What are the eligibility criteria for admission to the second course?

A student who has passed class 8th and has valid proof of attaining the same or self-certificate can apply for registration to the second course. Residential proof of the learner is also required. For obtaining a pass certificate in the secondary level a learner must pass with a minimum of 5 subjects including one or two languages. They can also opt for two additional subjects.

Passing and certification criteria-

  • A minimum of 33% marks in theory and practical wherever applicable in the public examination is required.
  • For certification, a student needs to pass 5 subjects including at least one for two languages.

What is the eligibility for NIOS 12th?

A learner should have passed the secondary (10th) exam successfully to be enrolled with NIOS. The minimum age to take admission in the senior secondary course is 15 years and the learner must have passed the secondary course from a recognized board.

Procedure for taking admission in NIOS

Learners have three options in front of them-

  1. They can register online directly by using the website of NIOS.
  2. They can visit the nearest AI (study center) or facilitation center and take help for online registration.
  3. They can visit the regional centers of NIOS and take help with online registration.

Is NIOS degree valued?

Yes, the National Institute of open schooling board is recognized by education institutions in India it is an authentic open school in the world and an authorized board. It is a highly reputed and recognized board of India you can get admission in any college after passing class 12th from the NIOS board. It allows the student to get assessed when ready and also removes the stress and burden of appearing in exams at a fixed time and schedule.

Few disadvantages of the NIOS board are-
