TET Exam Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for TET are listed below, and applicants should familiarise themselves with them before applying for the exam. The following are the requirements for Paper 1:

Paper 1

  1. The candidate must have received at least a 50% grade in class 12th and be in the last year of a two-year elementary education diploma program.
  2. The candidate must have passed class 12th with at least 45% and passed or appeared in the final year of the 2-year diploma in elementary education as per the NCTE Regulations 2002 or
  3. The candidate must have received at least a 50% grade in class 12th and passed or appeared for the last year of a four-year bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
  4. The candidate must have completed graduation and be in the final year of a two-year primary education diploma.

Paper 2 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria listed below for paper 2 of the TET exam for engineering.

  1. The candidate must be a graduate or in the last year of a 2-year elementary education diploma program.
  2. The candidate with a graduation score of a minimum of 50% and passed or appearing for the 1-year bachelor in education or
  3. The candidate must have done graduation with at least 45% and passed or appearing in the 1-year bachelor in education as per the NCTE regulations or
  4. Must have passed class 12th with at least 50% and passed or appeared for the final year of the 4-year bachelor in elementary education course or
  5. Must have passed class 12th with a minimum 50% and passed or appeared for the final year of the 4-year BA/B.Sc.Ed or BA.Ed/B.Sc.Ed or
  6. Must have completed a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% or passed or appeared for a one-year B.Ed (Special Education).

Documents Required for TET Exam

Before applying for TET, candidates should familiarise themselves with the documents required. The documents that are necessary are listed below.

  1. Recent photograph
  2. ID proof
  3. Caste Certificate
  4. Age Certificate
  5. Qualifications Certificate
  6. Diploma in Education or B.Ed. passing certificate etc.

TET Certificate Applicability

Every year, lakhs of aspirants from all across the country take the TETs in order to be considered for teacher recruitment to the following positions:

  1. Primary Teachers (PRTs): For Classes 1-5
  2. Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs): For Classes 6-10
  3. Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs): For Classes 11-12

Candidates who wish to teach classes 1 to 5 are required to take Paper 1 of the TET exam for engineering, whereas candidates who want to teach classes 6 to 8 are required to take Paper 2. It should be emphasized that passing the CTET or TET exam does not guarantee that candidates will be hired as teachers in schools.
