Hi Mani,
Firstly before I begin how to become a Web developer.
I wish to clarify, the difference between a Web Developer and a Web Designer.
Though the difference is minute, but must be known.
A web designer is the one who with the help of graphics, illustrations, coral draw and other applications makes the website look approachable and attractive.Whereas a Web Developer, is the one who controls the website functionality with the help of coding and other software applications.
Though a Developer, to be complete, best would be to also have knowledge regarding designing, but not the other way round.
To be a web developer, one needs to be well versed with computer hardware, networking, software and its applications and computer languages.
SO after 12th any stream, you could opt for either:
BCA:This is a crucial course if you wish to be a web developer. This course is a 3 years undergraduate course. The course is a combination of both theory and practicals as well as teaches you about programming, applications, troubleshooting and networking. To pursue BCA, Math is a preferred subject in class 12th.
B.ScIT: Again a 3 years undergraduate course after 12th. This course is mainly dealing with systems and hardware.
The choice of the course is yours. But as a counselor I would advise you to opt for a BCA course and follow it up with an MCA.
Apart from just the course, please note that you need to be apt with computer languages like:
The lists will go on adding depending on the need of the hour.
Once you are in the industry, you will have to keep yourself updated with the latest in the market, as the computer field is quite volatile.
Hope this helps
Wish you good luck............
Dear Aspirant,
Excellent answer by Ms. Mukherjee.
Web Developer has good scope and is more challenging that web designer. BCA and MCA would be ideal to become a Web Developer. BSc Computer Science and may be MCA will be a very good combination to be in the world of web designing, development.
Best wishes
Hello Meghna Mam,
Thanks for your quick & valuable response.
But, Actually i am doing industrial training in web development since last one month. i use wordpress as technology for development.
I search job for 1-2 year experience in web development for just knowing future requirements. i found that almost all companies want to desired profile that have knowledge of "wordpress, joomla, drupal, opencart, zend etc.". i scarred that how can candidate learn so much technology in 1 - 2 year.
so please tell me that "Career in web development with 2 - 3 technology (i.e. wordpress, opencart, not all) will safe and secure. And please also tell to me that whats will challenges come and what have to learn) when i will became senior developer (3 - 5 yer experience)"
Please note that, technology has advanced these days. But the courses available in Institutes have not advanced to that level.
As far as searching and finding a job fitting in with your qualifications are concerned, just apply to organization of your choice with the qualifications you have, and be open to learning.
At the same time, please note that, as you have rightly said that it is next to impossible to learn all the said languages within a span of 1 year, but never-the-less, the ones that the organization is demanding, it would be good if you could get certified with those technologies.
Then once you begin working, depending on the requirement at the job, you would have to get yourself certified.
Do not rush right now to learn the technologies right away.
Good that you have researched what companies are looking for as a web developer.
Just get yourself trained in those certification. If not all, but definitely a few which all organizations would demand.
The rest can be done as and when required.
Please note that computers is a volatile field, always changing, so today's certificates are replaced by new certifications that come sin the market.
So even though in the job, you need to be well aware of the new happenings and get certified accordingly if you wish to grow in future.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck.........
