Teacher eligibility test focuses on-

TET exam for Engineering Eligibility criteria-

  • The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from any recognized University.
  • Must have secured a minimum of 45% Marks.
  • Must have a valid educational degree like Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.), Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EL.Ed.), or Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)
  • The candidate should be of a minimum of 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit for CTET and various TET exams.

TET exam fee

For the General/EWS/OBC category, the fee for Paper 1 or Paper 2 is INR 600 and for Paper 1 and Paper 2 is INR1200. For SC/ST category, the fee for paper 1 or Paper 2 is INR 400 and the fee for Paper 1 and Paper 2 is INR 800. For the PWD category, the fee for Paper 1 or Paper 2 is INR 100 and the fee for paper 1 and paper 2 is INR 200.

Paper Pattern and Syllabus

  1. The syllabus for TET Paper 1 consists of candidates planning to teach the students of classes 1 to 5.
  2. Paper 2 consists of candidates planning to teach the students of classes 6th to 8th.

The question type for the TET exam for engineering is multiple choices question each carrying one mark. There is no negative marking however the examining body is very strict to the structure and content of the syllabus. Teacher eligibility tests are conducted twice a year.

TET exam contains a total of 150 questions and the duration for the same is 150 minutes the passing percentage is 60% for the general category and 55% for SC/ST/OBC. The qualifying marks for the General category are 90 out of 150 marks. The qualifying marks for SC/ST/ OBC are 82 out of 150 marks.

The validity of the TET certificate is now valid for life. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in June 2021 extended the TET certificate validity to lifetime. Candidates who have qualified for the TET exam for engineering and have the certificate can apply for a teacher position until they fulfill the school’s prescribed eligibility criteria.

Difference between the TET exam for Engineering & CTET exam

TET stands for Teacher Eligibility Test and is a state government conducted recruitment test for teachers. Whereas CTET stands for Central teacher eligibility test and is a national level exam conducted by the CBSE board.
